Summary: Ms. Oyenusi will provide an interactive workshop which will engage children ages 5-12 and their families in the captivating world of storytelling and creative arts. The session will revolve around her book, “Chasing Butterflies in the Sunlight.” She will share the journey of writing and publishing it, as well as her inspiration and motivation. She will discuss the genre, setting, structure, and themes. Participants will listen to her read a story from the book and engage in a hands-on activity to spark their creativity. The first 24 families to arrive will each receive free a copy of the book and accompanying activity workbook, and a set of colored pencils.
Book Description: “Chasing Butterflies in the Sunlight” is an illustrated chapter book of stories for children aged five to twelve. It was a finalist in the 2021 Next Generation Indie Book Awards, the largest international awards program for indie authors and publishers. The book narrates the joys and innocence of childhood as experienced by Ronke, a young girl growing up on a culturally and racially diverse university campus in Nigeria. Through Ronke’s adventures, the book beautifully showcases Nigeria’s and West Africa’s rich history, geography, culture, and culinary delights.
