English Country Dance (ECD) and contra dance are both all about having fun and building community. BFMS hosts weekly ECD and contra dances on Mondays and Wednesdays. Usually we charge admission to cover the costs of the hall, musicians, and caller, but for Free Fall, BFMS is offering two October dances free of charge on October 27 and 29.

All BFMS dances are open to the public and beginner friendly, even for people who don’t consider themselves dancers. Contra and ECD are social dances, and the point is fun, not perfection. Children as young as a few years old can learn the dances, and one regular dancer just celebrated his 94th birthday.

Before each dance, a beginner’s lesson takes place from 7:30-8pm. During the evening, the caller teaches each dance and continues to call, or instruct, throughout the dance. There’s no need to come with a partner since people will mix and dance with various others throughout the evening. Instead of Ladies & Gents, we use the more inclusive genderless role terms Larks & Robins.
