Dear Black Girl – Sewing Seeds
October 28, 4:00-6:00PM
Dear Black Girl – Sewing Seeds, is an installation honoring the insight and wisdom passed on by our Mama’s and or women that we cherish here on this earth. Inspired by the song, “On My Mama,” by artist Victoria Monet, Tamara continues to explore the idea of her own evolution through the memories of her mother and the women that have assisted her in “Becoming.” She allows other Black and brown women the opportunity to join in on the conversation. The combination of embroidered quotes, images, African textiles, video & found objects are combined to explore the beauty in the relationships of “Black Girl” womanhood. The collaboration affords women the opportunity to explore gifted memories and conversations about the women that they cherish and love the most.
This exhibition is intended to serve as a space of healing. In addition, the space affords diverse viewers the opportunity to become a witness in their journey of celebration of selected women and themselves.
