Discovering the Drum is an interactive, family-centered African drumming circle that invites participants of all ages to experience the power of rhythm, culture, and collective music-making. This special Free Fall Baltimore event expands the Creative Nomads African Drumming experience to welcome children, parents, grandparents, caregivers, friends, and neighbors into one shared circle. Led by experienced teaching artists, participants will learn the history and cultural significance of West African drumming while exploring basic rhythms, call-and-response techniques, and collaborative music-making. No musical experience is required, and drums will be provided. Hosted at Solo Gibbs Park, the event transforms one of Baltimore’s most iconic public spaces into a gathering place where families can connect across generations, celebrate cultural traditions, and experience the joy of creating music together in an inclusive outdoor setting. The program emphasizes participation over performance, ensuring every attendee leaves feeling welcomed, accomplished, and connected through the universal language of rhythm.
