Film Freedom School Workshop: Saturday, October 17, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Our Story to Tell //Analog Film + Photography Storytelling Lab is a free, intergenerational, two-part experience within the New Generation Scholars Freedom School that explores storytelling through analog photography and digital filmmaking. Facilitated by professional filmmakers, photographers, and teaching artists, the day begins with a hands-on workshop where participants learn the fundamentals of 35mm photography, DSLR cameras, and one-shot Super 8 filmmaking. Using instant cameras, participants will create photographs that contribute to a collaborative storyboard collage exploring how our stories intersect across Baltimore’s history and generations. Each participant will also receive a disposable film camera to continue experimenting beyond the workshop while exploring composition, light, and visual storytelling. Participants will develop film using a sustainable caffenol process before scanning and archiving their images. The day concludes with a free public screening at 360 House featuring short films by local youth filmmakers, followed by a community dialogue. Free lunch will be provided, creating an accessible space where people of all ages can learn, create, reflect, and connect through the moving image.
